Sum Cloud POS Desktop App

The Windows Desktop App is a fast, offline-first billing terminal. It works with no internet and syncs to the cloud automatically, with deep support for thermal printers, cash drawers, barcode scanners and weighing scales.

Download, install & first-time setup

  1. Download the Sum Cloud POS Desktop installer for Windows.
  2. Run the installer and launch the app.
  3. Log in with your Sum Cloud POS account.
  4. Select your branch. The app downloads your catalogue for offline use.
Requires Windows 10 or 11. Configure your printer in Windows first for best results.

Login & branch selection

Sign in with the same credentials as the web. Unverified accounts complete an OTP step. Choose the branch you’re operating; you can switch branches later.

Offline & online mode

Bill normally with or without internet. Offline sales are stored locally (SQLite) and marked pending. A false “no internet” message was fixed so connectivity is detected independent of login state.

Data synchronization & sync status

When online, the app syncs pending sales up and pulls catalogue/menu/table changes down. A sync status indicator shows progress; the POS layout live-refreshes on sync-complete. Real-time table occupied/free and catalogue-change updates arrive over SignalR.

Printer, cash drawer, scanner & scale

Configure hardware under Preferences:

  • Printers — receipt and kitchen (KOT) printers, floor/category routing
  • Cash drawer — Serial, USB or Network; default pulse on port 9100
  • Barcode scanner — scan-to-sell
  • Weighing scale — serial scale brings live weight into weight items (kg/g)

KOT printing from the Desktop

The cashier app can print Kitchen Order Tickets when KOT is enabled — on checkout, order create/edit/cancel and re-print — using the KOT template and settings.

Local data & cleanup

Preferences include Storage & Cleanup: retention-delete of already-synced rows and database compaction, with an automatic run for old data. This keeps the local database fast on long-running terminals.

Application updates & troubleshooting

The app updates itself to the latest build. For issues (won’t sync, printer offline, false no-internet), see Troubleshooting.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Desktop App work without internet?
Yes. It is offline-first — you can bill, print and manage tables offline, and it syncs to the cloud automatically when the connection returns.
How do I connect a cash drawer?
In Preferences → Cash Drawer, choose the connection type (Serial, USB or Network). The default is a pulse on network port 9100. The drawer opens on cash payments.
Can it read a weighing scale?
Yes. Connect a serial weighing scale and configure it in Preferences; weight items (kg/g) pull the live weight into the cart.
